Reka's high-voltage cables in the Central wastewater treatment plant project

Tampereen Vera installs Reka's high-voltage cables in the Central wastewater treatment plant project

The electrical network contractor, Tampereen Vera Ltd is contracting high-voltage cabling for Tampereen Sähköverkko Ltd in the Hatanpää area. The cabling changes are related to the transmission sewer that will be built in the connection with the Central treatment plant project. The new transmission sewer will be built mainly on the old cable route, and for this reason cabling will be implement to a new route.

In the project, Tampeereen Vera Ltd uses Reka Cables Dryrex product family's 110 kW AHXCHBMK-W high voltage cables which are manufactured at the Riihimäki production plant. The Dryrex high-voltage cables are lead-free, which makes them light, easy to handle and environmentally friendly. These features were also praised by Vera's team manager Lasse Annala stating that, as a high-voltage cable, the handling and flexibility of the AHXCHBMK-W is at an excellent level. In addition, the factory-installed cable pull heads make the work significantly easier. The choice of the cable supplier was influenced by the long and well-functioning cooperation between Reka Cables and Tampereen Vera.

The Viinikanlahti project is part of a larger Central wastewater treatment plant project, in which all the wastewater treatment plants in the Pirkanmaa region will be centralised to the Sulkavuori central treatment plant. The construction of the central treatment plant began in 2018, and the goal is to start operating the new wastewater treatment plant in 2024. The project includes a wastewater treatment plant in Sulkavuori, transfer sewers and two pumping stations.

Weatherproof and reliable power grids

The use of high-voltage cables are especially focused on the construction of urban networks, and the improvement of reliable electricity networks. The use of Dryrex high-voltage cables allows power networks to be located underground, which has proved to be a reliable method to avoid power outages caused by storms. In addition, when moving power grids underground, it frees the land up for other purposes. Nevertheless, society's ability to function is ensured by building electrical networks that are resistant to strong weather changes and demanding conditions.
